ARTIST'S STATEMENT
A ‘Sense of Place’
The notion of a ‘sense of place’ is firmly tied to how we as individuals experience the world. Each personal experience with a place is tied to a mood or an association with the perceived spirit of that location. Color and movement work together with emotion to create an impression of a landscape that, in the mind’s eye, is often devoid of explicit detail, yet saturated with color through lines of expression. I feel that in order to solidify these ephemeral landscapes they must be abstracted to convey experience through color. The composition of these works uses the contrast of the light and dark shades to recreate the scene that caught the eye, while triad and complementary colors assign feeling to the movement of the scene, as envisioned by the mind.
